Hi, I’m Kay Meaney!
My journey into herbal medicine began in my 20’s when I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS). Doctors told me there was no cure and even worse, that I would need assistance to be able to walk in the future. I felt hopeless, but decided that this was not be my destiny. I started reading and researching to find a way to heal myself. In my own community, I came across a doctor who’s approach was different from the rest. Her healing was not in pharmaceuticals or labeling my disease, but instead using food as medicine to correct nutriential deficiencies. She focused on cleaning up my environment and supporting my natural detox pathways in order to heal. We incorporated supplements and herbal medicine that would assist this process.
She opened my eyes to many avenues of healing. Slowly, over time I stopped the progression of the disease.
This experience changed my life. Although I still had the diagnosis of MS, I never let the label define me.
I had two beautiful girls, Elizabeth (EJ) and Caitlin, with my husband, Joe. I never went back to my way of living before my MS diagnosis. What I learned became an integral part of my life. My supportive husband took this journey with me. As we raised our kids, it was important to both of us that they learned to live healthy and eat well.
In 2018, I futhered my education at the Mid-Atlantic School of Herbalism. This 2- year program involved studying herbal medicine, diseases processes, systems of the body and how herbs interact with pharmaceutical drugs. I regularly saw clients at our schools clinic and was able to see how their medical conditions improved with herbal medicine. I went on to complete a one-year mentorship program with Camille Freeman where I gained additional herbal knowledge and clinical experience. In 2024, I completed a one-year course in herbalism and gardening at Forrest Green Farm, a regenerative farm in Louisa, VA. During this time, I furthered my studies of medicinical herbalism and became more knowledgeable in the process of making herbal medicines including growing, harvesting and processing herbs.
My goal in writing this blog is to share what I have learned so you can take it into your own hands and use it for your benefit. I have studied herbal medicine extensively, but when I use herbs in my everyday life I am still amazed. In the past, when I was coming down with a cold I would just wait to see what happened, but now I take a different approach. I use my training to support my bodies natural healing and I am amazed every time the power and impact that herbs can have. This is what I want to teach you- how to use herbal medicine in your everyday life for many different aliments.
Herbal medicine is the people’s medicine and I look forward to sharing this vast wealth of information with you.
